Tents
When camping, your tent will become your mobile home that shelters and protects you from the elements. While this sounds completely obvious it is surprising how little thought many people put into choosing their tent.
Tents come in three main flavors, dome, ridge or pole and family, each with their own set of strengths and weaknesses. Before you make a final decision, you really need to think about what you need from your tent.
How will you be getting to and from the camp site? Will the weight and bulk of the tent be important to you. Believe me, if you are cycling or hiking, every ounce matters! Of course this is less of a problem if you are driving there by car.
What will the tent be protecting you from? While the weather can be difficult to predict it is reasonable to assume that snow is unlikely in the middle of Summer.
On the other hand the weather can change dramatically when camping in the mountains and you need to ensure that your equipment is up to the job. You may be there for a few days longer than anticipated.
