Sleeping Bags
You could write a book about sleeping bags. As one of the main components to any camping trip it pays to spend a little time, thought and of course money on selecting the right sleeping bag for the trip.
There are a number of factors that determine the ideal sleeping bag at any one time so lets take a look at some of the more important ones:
Temperature
The night time temperature is probably the biggest factor that will influence your choice of sleeping bag for the trip. Remember that in elevated regions, the temperature can fall dramatically once the sun goes down.
Hypothermia becomes a very real threat and a good sleeping bag can make all the difference.
Sleeping bag weight
If you are backpacking or cycling then you will want to keep the weight you carry to an absolute minimum. Of course there is always a trade-off. High performance lightweight sleeping bags cost more.
Sleeping bag style
There are three main styles of sleeping bag, the Mummy, the Rectangular and the Tapered sleeping bag. We will go deeper into each style on a separate page.
Sleeping bag filling
Sleeping bag fillings fall into two main categories: synthetic or down.
Sleeping bags filled with goose or duck down are generally warmer and lighter while sleeping bags filled with synthetic fibers are cheaper and are more resistant to wetness.
