Camping Gear

This section deals with camping gear, specifically what you need to stay warm and dry. Being cold and wet is no fun and could even become life threatening if hypothermia set in.

Coming from a motorcycling background I can tell you with some authority that the right clothing for the job can make the difference between a fun trip and a thoroughly miserable time.

And if you wish to stay warm and dry then you need to leave the cotton at home.

Cotton simply soaks up water becoming heavy and cold. Even if the weather is warm and dry your own body moisture (am I allowed to say sweat?) is enough to soak into cotton clothing making you feel pretty uncomfortable.

Wool, silk and the latest range of breathable fibers such as Gore-tex make the ideal camping gear, allowing your body to breathe while keeping in valuable heat.

If you plan to camp at altitude or exposed to the elements then the correct camping gear is absolutely vital for your safety.

Much body heat is lost through your head so a good thermal hat should be on your list of essential camping gear.
