Camping Food
When it comes to camping food and cooking I have a little confession: I usually eat out in restaurants!
Not because I don’t like to cook for myself but simply because I treat eating out as a major part of my evenings entertainment. I have met a great many new friends while sampling local restaurants.
However, it is not always practical to eat out, especially if the nearest town is some distance away. Then you will appreciate camping food and cooking over a camping stove!
Like many other forms of cooking, camping food is forever changing as new recipes are created and cooking facilities improve. I heartily recommend buying an up to date book of the latest recipes.
Dried foods such as noodles and flaked potatoes are ideal if weight is an issue. Where you don’t have to worry about carrying everything then canned food can be convenient and quick to reheat.
But camping food is more than just beans around a campfire. Many sites have dedicated barbecue areas where whole evenings can be spent under the setting sun in the company of like minded friends.
As with all camping, you do as much or as little as you like. If the smell of bacon and eggs sizzling on a campfire and hot freshly brewed coffee wakes you up in the morning then by all means go for it.
For others, a bowl of cereal and a glass of fruit juice is just as appealing. It’s amazing how much better food tastes when it is eaten al fresco!

Of course you could always use the facilities on the campsite. This campsite in Titisee, Germany (pictured above) had a small eating area where they made pizzas.
